BASTROP, TX, January 3, 2017 – The YMCA of Bastrop will start its American Sign Language classes, beginning January 10th and running 6 weeks through February 14th. The class is being offered in two different divisions: youth (ages 5-12) and adult (13 and up).

Each class will introduce new signs and introduce a piece of deaf culture. Participants will be given handouts and resources to practice at home. Some of the things participants will learn include the alphabet and numbers, sign names, common phrases, grammar, time signs, place signs, people signs, the history of sign language, deaf education, and strange deaf medical treatments.

The courses will meet once a week on Tuesdays at the Bastrop YMCA’s main office (1112 Main Street) with the youth group meeting from 4:30-5:30 PM and the adult group meeting from 5:45-6:45 PM. Rebekah Bond will be teaching both courses. Please visit to register.
