Start the new year off right with January’s First Friday Art Walk….

Downtown Bastrop is gearing up the first Art Walk of 2017 this First Friday, January 6th from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in historically hip downtown Bastrop.  The monthly event showcases and celebrates galleries, artists, restaurants, shops and small business and will celebrate the holiday season during Lost Pines Christmas.  “What better way to start off the new year then by supporting local businesses, artisans and artists in downtown Bastrop,” said Main Street Director Sarah O’Brien.

Participating businesses host artisans inside their locations and feature a variety of refreshments, live music, and local and regional artwork and cool snacks and drinks for both adults and children. These month’s Art Walk venues include: Art Connections Gallery, 908 Main Street, Lost Pines Art Center, 1204 Chestnut, Donna’s by Design, 926 Main Street, and the R.A. Green Mercantile, 1022 Main Street. Other venues for January’s First Friday Art Walk include: Bastrop Museum & Visitor’s Center, 904 Main Street, Colorado River Winery, 707 Chestnut, Cripple Creek Wine & Gifts, 928- A Main Street, Main Street Café, 1006 Main Street, Linda Kjellberg Artworks, 920 Main Street, Studio Espavo, 924 Main Street, Rock n Artisan, 920 Main Street, and Tough Cookie Bakery, 601 Chestnut Suite D, and The Branding Shop, 1010 Main Street.  All of our venues and participants have brochures and maps available to guide you as you enjoy this great event.

Here are a few details about this month’s featured artists & events: Donna’s by Design will be featuring the jewelry creations of Dawn Sears. Dawn adds natural stone, shell, and wood beads to crochet and string to produce an intriguing combination for a wide array of jewelry items. The Lost Pines Art Center has a group or artists with a show that features the theme of Transitions. Studio Espavo will be celebrating its 1 Year Anniversary during the January 6th Art Walk! They have added new classes and teachers. And, on every 1st Saturday, the Nia Class and Yoga Class fees are only $5! The Branding shop will feature Mary Foley, she does fantastic western and landscape photography. And Simply Sweet Cupcakes will be open! Art Connections will feature contemporary paintings by guest artist Darryl Freeman and “Vacation Paintings” by Enid Wood.  Music by Amanda Hickey and we will be serving “comfort food” for the cold winter. 

The First United Methodist Church of Bastrop offers childcare for ages 0-7 from 6-10pm on the first Friday of every month in the church basement. The church is located at 1201 Main

Street in downtown Bastrop. The cost is $15 for the first child, $5 for the second child, and FREE for each additional sibling. Dinner is provided. Reservations are required; no walk-ins. RSVP at (512) 321-2201.
