Heavy Lifting at Hwy 95 Overpass

By  |

Work on the Hwy. 95/71 overpass is progressing at a steady rate with the recent emplacement of massive beams and columns that will support elevated portions of the road. Hunter Industries Ltd., of San Marcos is the main contractor for the $16.5 million project that is being overseen by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). Part of the project has involved the laying of new drainage/sewer infrastructure and the moving of power lines to make way for the expanded highway. The targeted completion date for the project is summer 2018. A Hwy. 71 overpass at Tahitian Village, about a mile east of the Hwy. 95 intersection, was recently completed. One of the main goals of project is to improve traffic flow through Bastrop on the Austin-to Interstate 10-to Houston route. Officials caution motorists to slow down when approaching the Hwy. 95 work – for their own safety and the safety of workers on the project.
